  • PB Man Accused of Burning Child Turns Himself In

    A Pine Bluff man wanted on battery charges for allegedly pouring hot water on a two-year-old, turned himself in late Monday night.

    Police say Bates, Michael Bates, 26, walked into the Jefferson County Detection Center around eleven o'clock last night after seeing himself on the news.

    Police had been looking for him after a little girl suffered 2nd and 3rd degree burns to her body over the weekend.

    Police were called after the child was brought to Jefferson Regional Medical Center's emergency room Sunday afternoon by a family member. She was later transferred to Arkansas Children’s Hospital for further treatment.

    Bates is being held on $50,000 bond.

    The child's mother, Carine Sykes, is also under arrest for hindering apprehension of Bates. Her bond is set at $10,000.
