Reported by: KARK 4 News Friday, Nov 14, 2008 @04:00pm CST State Insurance Commissioner Julie Benafield Bowman reminds people with Medicare that, starting November 15th, they will be able to make changes in their health and prescription drug coverage for 2009. The Medicare annual coordinated election period for Medicare Advantage and Medicare prescription drug plans runs from November 15 through December 31, 2008. Commissioner Bowman points out that this year some beneficiaries will see changes in their plans’ coverage and costs. She said, “I encourage those with Medicare to take advantage of the services provided by the Arkansas Insurance Department’s Senior Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP) when they are comparing the various plans.” Assistance is available (click here) or by calling 1-800-224-6330. Beneficiaries may also click here or call 1-800-MEDICARE. Anyone calling Medicare or SHIIP for guidance in navigating the Medicare Prescription Drug Plan Finder should have their Medicare number, age, health status, local pharmacy, and a list of their current prescriptions. SHIIP will hold local enrollment events around the state through December 31, 2008. “I know these local events will be invaluable,” said Commissioner Bowman. Each event will emphasize the availability of local resources as well as help beneficiaries review their current health plans and compare them to 2009 options. Details on these events may be obtained by calling SHIIP at 1-800-224-6330 or click here for its website. |
