  • 5:55 p.m. - Update: Vigil Tonight for Slain UCA Studen...
Reported by: Chelsea Folts, KARK 4 News

    Monday, Oct 27, 2008 @05:55pm CDT

A candlelight vigil is planned at UCA in Conway tonight to mourn the loss of two students in a shooting on campus Sunday night.

The ceremony begins at 5:00 p.m. at the Harding Fountain.

Authorities identified the victims this morning as Ryan Henderson, 18, from Little Rock, a recent graduate of Hall High School and Charvares Block, 19, of, Dermott. A third shooting victim, Martrevis Norman, was treated and released. UCA Police say he was not a student.

UCA officials say Block was a sophomore pre-engineering major who first enrolled at UCA in Fall 2007, and that Henderson, a freshman, was an undeclared major. Block lived off campus, and Henderson lived in Arkansas Hall.

Counseling for UCA students, faculty and staff is available through the UCA Counseling Center at four campus locations:
    State Hall
Arkansas Hall (1st Floor Study Room Mini Lobby)
    Harrin Hall (Room 117)
The UCA Counseling Center (Student Health Center, Suite 327)

In addition to tonight's candlelight vigil, two other events have been organized to mourn the loss of Chavares Block and Ryan Henderson:

A prayer vigil will take place Tuesday afternoon at 1:40 p.m. at Ida Waldran Auditorium on behalf of all religious registered student organizations.

Also, Keeping a Child Alive will be in the UCA Student Center all day tomorrow distributing ribbons in memory of the students who lost their lives.

Classes were cancelled at UCA Monday but will resume Tuesday.
