Reported by: Cecillea Pond-Mayo, KARK 4 News Thursday, Sep 11, 2008 @11:00am CDT Judge David Burnett has issued a ruling in the request for a new trial made by attorneys for Damien Echols, Jason Baldwin, and Jessie Misskelley.
He denied the request, saying new DNA test results do not rule out that they were not there, nor that they were not the killers. The three were scheduled to have hearings on the matter beginning this week. Burnett postponed those meetings and had stated he would issue a ruling as to the reason why. Attorneys for the defendants claimed there was new evidence discovered last year that proves their clients did not kill three 8 year old boys in 1993. This case could possibly make its way to the Supreme Court. |
