  • Rumors Intensify: The Future of Coach Houston Nutt
Reported by: Sydney Hart, KARK 4 News

    Friday, Nov 16, 2007 @04:29pm CST

Rumors are flying, is Houston Nutt leaving the Arkansas Razorbacks at the end of the season?
From anti-Houston message boards to negative banners at recent games to billboards standing up for the head coach.
Now, on the eve of the Hogs last home game in Little Rock, some are suggesting this is it for Coach Nutt.
Hog fans are rolling into town in hopes of a big win Saturday against Mississippi State.
The boss Hog himself is here for his last game in Little Rock as the Razorback Athletic Director so we had to ask him about the controversy surrounding Coach Nutt.
"People don't care to see you play, they come to see you win. And if you don't win you're in trouble," explains Frank Broyles about the challenge any head coach faces.
When asked if Nutt's job is on the line this was Broyles' response, " It wouldn't be if I'm the athletic director. If he wanted to leave I'd say that's fine with the negativity, I don't know, I don't know."
But rumors about Coach Nutt have exploded, so KARK 4 Sports, Aaron Nolan asked him about his alleged resignation.
"That's silly. That's ridiculous to put rumors out like that. People are talking," answered Nutt.
The rumors come after a rocky season from fans. Banners urging folks to fire Nutt were displayed by Nutt naysayers at recent home and even away games.
But now Houston Nutt supporters are fighting back.
A billboard along Highway 67/167 in Pulaski County sends a clear message..."Save Houston Nutt."
So with a divided fan-base can the Hogs pull off a victory this weekend in the capital city?
"We didn't block against TN, but we're gonna block tomorrow. I don't care who you have for a running back, if you don't block it doesn't make a difference. Coach Marcus is gonna have 'em blocking tomorrow," explains hog fan, Bobby Sutton.
"Thank goodness for the Little Rock crowd will be there. The Little Rock crowd is 10 points toward a victory," add Broyles.
And while Mississippi State fans worry about #5,
"If we can just hold what's his name to what 150 yards, that'd be great," says Mississippi fan, Edna Gibson,
Coach Broyles says he'd highlight the double threat, McFadden and Felix Jones, "I would give the ball to those two. I would like to pass some, but I'd give the ball to the two best runners in America."
But win or lose, when the season ends some still wonder what Nutt will do next.
"I'm hoping Coach Nutt will do what he thinks best for him and the University of Arkansas football program. Knowing him like I do, I'm sure he'll do that," says Ken Park, loyal hog fan.
Again, Coach Nutt says the recent rumors of his departure are silly and it's just people talking.
Keep it tuned to KARK 4 News as the Razorback Nation continues to follow this story.
