Thursday, Jul 19, 2007 @11:39am CDT New evidence comes to light in the case of the West Memphis Three.
It's evidence that could connect a family member of one of the victims to the crime scene. In 1993, Damien Echols, Jason Baldwin, and Jessie Misskelly were all convicted for the murders of three 8 year-old boys. Now, according to news reports, DNA from Terry Hobbs, the stepfather of one of the victims -- Stevie Branch -- was discovered in the rope used to tie up one of the boys. Branch's body, along with Michael Moore and Christopher Byers, were found in a park in West Memphis. Back in May of 2005, in an exclusive interview with KARK, Damien Echols maintained his innocence in the case. "Did you kill those three little boys?" "No I did not...I never even saw those boys before in my life. I've never hurt a child in my life..I have a child of my own and there is no way I would do something like that." Defense attorneys hope to get a hearing on the new evidence sometime this summer. |
