  • 'West Memphis Three' Protesters Gather in Crittenden Co...
Reported by: Betsey Martin, KARK 4-News

    Saturday, Jun 2, 2007 @06:37pm CDT

It's been 14 years since the bodies of three 8-year-old boys were found mutilated in West Memphis. But time hasn't quieted the voices of those who believe the wrong three men are behind bars for the crimes.  Supporters of the convicted killers, commonly referred to now as the West Memphis 3, protested in Crittenden County Saturday.  The event was organized by 'Arkansans Working to Achieve Revolution' or AWAR.  Those backing Damian Echols, Jessie Misskelley, Jr. and Jason Baldwin believe the men were wrongly convicted on poor evidence and 'satanic panic.'
That panic supposedly created by their interest in the Stephen King novels and heavy metal music.  Steve Branch, Christopher Byers and Michael Moore would all be 22 if they had lived.  Those in jail for killing them were arrested on
June 3rd 1993 - their supporters have named June 3rd -- West Memphis Three Worldwide Awareness Day. Events are planned tomorrow from Tennessee to Montreal, Canada.
