    Winter Weather

With this latest round of winter weather, how do you feel about the snow we've been getting?
I don't like it at all.
It's nice, but I'm ready for Spring.
I love it! Bring on more snow!

  • Federal Stimulus Dollars Headed to 6 Little Rock Neighb...
Reported by: Melissa Simas, KARK 4 News

If you've been wondering where your taxes dollars have gone to support the President's Recovery and Reinvestment Act, we have some answers.

The Little Rock Housing Authority received $6 million dollars in federal grants to build and renovate homes in 6 different neighborhoods. Residents there hope it will change their lives.

"I am a handicapped person and I need a larger apartment," said Lou White.

White says many of the homes and complexes in that area are in need of just basic necessities.

"It would be nice if we had a washing room, cause everyone there in the apartment don't have dryers," said White.

The Little Rock Housing Authority says renovations and construction will begin after the first of the  year.

The 3 neighborhoods to receive new construction include: the Stephens, Central High and Granite Mountain Areas. Thirty-four new apartment units will be built to better the quality of life for residents, 20 of which will be exclusive for senior citizens.

"We're gonna go to those homes of our existing tenants and make their lives nicer," said Brad Walker with the Little Rock Housing Authority.

"That's stability. It creates lower crime rates. It creates safer neighborhoods. It creates wonderful places for people to play," said Little Rock Mayor Mark Stodola.

The Little Rock Housing Authority is also aiming to go green, building more sustainable and environmentally-friendly homes.

"Not only are we going to build houses in these neighborhoods, we're going to change lives," said Little Rock Housing Authority Commissioner Robert Webb.

This project should be completed by 2011, with a ground breaking this summer. Organizers anticipate a waiting list will be set up for the 34 new units through the Little Rock Housing Authority.
