Thursday, Oct 29, 2009 @10:43pm CDT A woman and her 12-year-old son were safely pulled from a sinking SUV after driving into high water Thursday night along 7th Street in downtown Little Rock.
Her dramatic rescue, just west of the State Capitol, was seen live on KARK 4 News at 10. KARK 4 cameras were rolling as the woman's SUV became submerged in the rising water within minutes, before Thomas Hudson jumped in and swam to help her. He was soon joined by a fire department crew who helped pull the woman and boy from the vehicle and out of the water to safety. Anyone expecting to drive anywhere in Arkansas should be on the lookout for hazardous driving conditions like this, where rising water can cover roads quickly. If you encounter such a situation, DO NOT attempt to drive through high water. You will have no way of knowing how fast the water is flowing, how deep it is, or even if the road underneath hasn't been washed away. |
