Monday, Oct 26, 2009 @08:19am CDT The latest earthquake in central Arkansas rattled residents of Faulkner County Sunday night.
The United States Geological Survey says the earthqake was a 2.9 on the Richter scale. The epicenter was northwest of Greenbrier. People felt the tremor in Greenbrier, Conway, and Damascus. There was no damage reported. Click here for more information. Just a few weeks ago seismologists with the University of Arkansas at Little Rock were out checking on three earthquakes that had rocked Central Arkansas in mid October. The UALR team said the tremors measured between 2-point-2 and 2-point-8 on the Richter Scale. The following information on three of the tremors is from the Center for Earthquake Research and Information: A micro earthquake occurred at 2:19:53 AM (CDT) on Friday, October 16, 2009. The magnitude 2.8 event occurred 11 km (7 miles) SSW of Higden, AR. The hypocentral depth is 2 km (1 mile). A micro earthquake occurred at 1:55:35 AM (CDT) on Thursday, October 15, 2009. The magnitude 2.8 event occurred 3 km (2 miles) W of Greenbrier, AR. The hypocentral depth is 3 km (2 miles). A micro earthquake occurred at 11:05:15 PM (CDT) on Wednesday, October 14, 2009. The magnitude 2.8 event occurred 10 km (6 miles) NNW of Quitman, AR. The hypocentral depth is 3 km (2 miles). |
