  • Bob Clausen
Bob made his first broadcast when he was just eleven— but more on that later. Currently, he co-anchors KARK 4 News at 5:00, 6:00 and 10:00 PM.

He's been a member of the award-winning KARK team since the winter of 1994. "Working as a reporter in Little Rock is a fascinating experience," Bob says. "From covering the President's re-election in '96, to the Jonesboro school shootings and the crash of Flight 1420, I have the chance to be a part of not only local news but national events as well."

Prior to KARK Channel 4, Bob was an anchor/reporter at the NBC affiliate in Las Vegas. He calls Vegas "A different world— one that you have to see at least once before you leave this one. I was there when some of the biggest casinos in the world were going up— and when some like The Dunes were coming down. All the while, 'Sin City' was evolving into a family fun spot. Just seeing that was unique!" One of Bob's last stories in Vegas is one of the city's oldest. He covered the demolition of mobster Ben Siegel's original Flamingo Hotel.

Bob was taking full advantage of an internship at KVOA-TV, the NBC station in Tucson when he heard about an opportunity to report. "I was there soaking up all this experience from these great reporters, producers and anchors," he recounts. "After about a year, I heard about an opening in Yuma, a small town on the border of California, Arizona and Mexico. With the blessing of my friends at KVOA, I jumped in my Jeep, drove my resume and tape four and a half hours to the News Director's front door. He gave me the job." "Yuma is a small market," Bob says. "You do it all: find the story, go to the story, shoot the pictures, edit the tape, produce the show and anchor it— if you have any time left! "In Yuma, where it can get as hot as 120 degrees, you run into a few obstacles while covering the news. But my challenges paled in comparison to the stories I heard and told about Marines returning to the MCAS Yuma after the Gulf War— or to those of migrant workers struggling to survive by picking crops in California's Imperial Valley. Yuma is where I began to build a solid foundation for telling the People Stories. After all, it's people who give life to this thing called news."

And about that first broadcast: it was in Sixth Grade, a class video project. So how long ago was that? Bob becomes, frankly, evasive on this point. "Let's just say it was recorded on a reel-to-reel videotape machine." And before your Web Editor can even exclaim, "A WHAT?!?!" Bob is off to the next story. "Since that day in school, this is all I've ever wanted to do," he says.
