    The pneumonia vaccine is very important for seniors. Approximately 60,000 Americans 65 and older die from pneumonia each year. Also at risk are post–operative patients, people with chronic illnesses like lung disease, and those living in a nursing home or other chronic care facility.  The best way to prevent pneumonia is to get your pneumonia vaccine. Unlike the influenza vaccine the pneumonia vaccine does not need to be administered every year. Many of the elderly may not know that there is a vaccine for pneumonia. And, It is important to get the pneumonia vaccine from their doctor, even if they get a flu shot.
