Brett joined us on New Year's Day, 2001. Brett is a graduate of the meteorology program at Mississippi State University. He holds a B.S. degree in Geosciences. While in college, he received a prestigious Industrial/Undergraduate Scholarship from the American Meteorological Society (AMS). Before coming to KARK, Brett worked as a meteorologist at WDAM-TV in Hattiesburg, WXXV-TV in Gulfport and WTOK-TV in Meridian. He also was an assistant clerk of meteorology at the Naval Oceanographic Office in Bay St. Louis MS.

Brett left KARK in May 2008 to become the chief meteorologist for WVLA TV in Baton Rouge, LA and two FOX stations across Cajun country. His first day at work was the day before Hurricane Gustav hit the area. Brett’s assignment was “chasing” the storm for more than five hours from landfall back to Baton Rouge.

He is excited about being able to return to KARK and central Arkansas. “It just feels like home here.”

Through all his experiences, Brett has learned a lot about forecasting the South's weather. He has been involved in several storm chases through Mississippi and the Great Plains and has seen several tornadoes over the years. But his mind has been made up since childhood that he wanted to make weather his career. "I had always watched local weather with my parents," he says. "At the age of eight, it just hit me that this was what I wanted to do with my life. Severe weather was the hook and line, but the F4 tornado in Glade, Mississippi, 20 miles from my house was the sinker."

Brett is a member of the American Meteorological Society and the National Weather Association and holds the Seals of Approval from both organizations. Brett has also been awarded an Arkansas Associated Press award for best weathercast two years in a row, first place in 2001 and second place in 2002. When he's not busy in the KARK Weather Center, he enjoys taking in the local sights and sounds of Little Rock and spending time in the gorgeous Arkansas outdoors.
