Legendary actress Elizabeth Taylor will be undergoing heart surgery.
She announced Tuesday via Twitter that she was going into the hospital to undergo the procedure.
She explained her decision to go public with the news, noting that she wanted to tell her fans about the situation herself before it was reported by the media.
The 77-year-old Taylor described the procedure, saying, quote, "It's very new and involves repairing my leaky valve using a clip device, without open heart surgery, so that my heart will function better." She added, quote, "Any prayers you happen to have lying around I would dearly appreciate. I'll let you know when it's all over."
Taylor has been battling congestive heart failure for the past five years.
She's also endured other health issues over the years, including a benign brain tumor and severe back pain.
