Reported by: KARK 4 News Tuesday, Sep 29, 2009 @05:45pm CDT Some streets that were closed Friday in North Little Rock won't reopen again until Thursday.
The westbound lane of Riverfront Drive on the perimeter of Dickey-Stephens Park is closed from Willow Street west to Karrot Street. Riverfront Drive is now reduced to one lane in each direction between Karrot and Willow in the normally eastbound lanes. Willow Street is completely closed from Riverfront Drive north to Broadway Avenue. The reason for the shutdown is preparation and deconstruction of an outdoor stage for the Dave Matthews Band's performance at Dickey-Stephens Park on Tuesday night. Gates will open at 5:00 p.m. for the 7:00 p.m. concert that will open with special guest, rock n’ roll hall-of-famer Gregg Allman. As the top touring act in the United States, the Dave Matthews Band, in conjunction with JAM Productions, requires a substantial stage-build, especially for an outdoor venue that is not used exclusively for concerts. JAM Productions started the stage-build on Saturday morning. The Arkansas Travelers Baseball Club and the city of North Little Rock are encouraging motorists to avoid the area if at all possible through Thursday. “This being the first major concert at Dickey-Stephens Park, we want to make sure everything goes off without a hitch.”, said Travelers general manager Pete Laven. “We regret any inconveniences to citizens' regular travel routines as a result of concert preparations, but we have full confidence in JAM Productions and the Dave Matthews Band that it is necessary in putting together a world-class rock n’ roll concert right here in North Little Rock.” Call the Dickey-Stephens Park box office at (501) 664-7559 or visit ticketmaster.com online to check for availability of general admission tickets ($65) to the Dave Matthews Band concert. |
