City of Little Rock Offers Maps of Christmas Storm Debris Cleanup

So far, 10,700 tons, or more than 21 million pounds of debris have been picked up since December.
The Christmas storm left thousands of piles across neighborhoods in Little Rock, but as of Feb. 15, Ceres Contracting has been loading hundreds of tons a day and taking it into the landfill. Over the past weekend, more than 900 tons were dropped off.
The company's contract is for 150 days, which stretches to July, and project managers expect they will meet that deadline.
The work is wrapping up on the first pass of debris collection in all wards, with some requiring more time than others.
"For those wards that have less damage, we've been able to cover more, area-wise, than some of those others that had more debris. It's taken longer to clean those wards," says John Honeywell, of Little Rock Public Works.
The City Public Works Department is hoping to have that first sweep completed within the next month. Workers are currently cleaning up seven days a week.
In total, FEMA estimated there were 22,000 tons of debris that needed to be removed, and so far nearly half that total has been collected.
Little Rock citizens can always bring their debris to the drop-off locations at Reservoir Park and Interstate Park if they're tired of waiting for pick up.
City of Little Rock residents will now be able to view online which streets have had storm debris picked up by going to www.LittleRock.org.
"It will be as simple as the click of a mouse to find out where collection crews have been," said City Manager Bruce Moore. "Each of the seven wards in the City of Little Rock will have its own map that will be updated every Tuesday and we will continue to make them available online until the job is completed."
To access the maps, go to www.LittleRock.org and click on "December 2012 Winter Storm Update" on the home page. From there, residents can click on which ward map they'd like to see and can use the zoom function to locate their street.
