Arkansas Christians Celebrate Ash Wednesday

By: Deedra Wilson
Updated: February 14, 2013

Around the world and all across Arkansas Christians observe Ash Wednesday marking the first day of Lent.

At St. Andrew Cathedral in downtown Little Rock, Catholics pray, prepare for fasting and repentance.

It is a symbolic gesture to the 40 days Jesus spent fasting in the desert and so much more to some.

"To let people know it's time to make a change from within, is what the 40 days of lent is all about, mimicking Jesus suffering before he died on the cross, said Dorcy Corbin, Parishoner."

Lent ends with the celebration of Easter.
