It was hunger day at the state capitol, where lawmakers pitched in to put together more than 10,000 meals.

The Arkansas Hunger Relief Alliance says the food will go to six "Feeding America" food banks around the state.

The event started an hour early since there were so many people willing to pitch in, and by the time everything was supposed to start, it was actually wrapping up.

"Our goal was 10,000. We hit it and we ran out of macaroni. Next year we're going to go for 15," said Rep. Kathy Webb of Little Rock.

The alliance says one in six Arkansans can't afford enough food to eat.
