A city in Northwest Arkansas is cracking down on texting while driving.

Fayetteville Police say they're making the push because they see it as a common contributing factor to crashes not only in Fayetteville, but nationwide.

Patrols will be beefed up on North College Avenue in an attempt to cut down on driving violations in the area, specifically between North and Millsap.

"It only takes a second for an accident to happen, whether it's someone steps out in front of you, you don't see a vehicle that stops in front of you," says Sgt. Craig Stout with Fayetteville PD.

This week's efforts are part of a comprehensive plan by city police to improve the all-around safety on roads throughout Fayetteville.
