Arkansas Teens Place First, Third at Texas Rifle Championship

Elizabeth Marsh and Zach Meyer, both 8th graders from Cleburne County competed January 12-13 in the Texas Rifle Association State Small bore and Pellet Rifle Championship at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth.
The students competed to secure a coveted position in the USA Shooting Junior Olympics in Colorado Springs, Colorado this spring.
Marsh competed in the women's 14-17 year old division in three position .22 rifle and finished in first place. She also finished 3rd in her division of precision pellet rifle. Meyer competed in the men's 14-17 year old division of three position .22 rifle and finished in first place. He finished 5th in his division of precision pellet rifle. Both shooters are hopeful they will receive an invitation to the Junior Olympics based upon their outstanding scores.
Meyer and Marsh are members of Cleburne County 4H and practice 2-4 hours a day in preparation for a match. They are the 2012 NRA Arkansas Youth Hunter Education Challenge and 4H Range Events Overall Junior 1st and 2nd place champions. The pair along with other Cleburne County 4H members plan to compete in the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) Arkansas Championship match in North Little Rock and the CMP National Championship match in Anniston, Alabama this spring.
Rifle is an NCAA sport at many 4-year colleges.
