He speaks January 10th (Thursday) as part of "Bless the Mic" Season Eight at Philander Smith College.
Martinez is also an author, actor and military veteran.
While serving in Iraq in April of 2003, Martinez suffered severe burns and smoke inhalation when his Humvee was struck by a landmine. His journey of survival from his injuries through a message of hope and optimism is chronicled in his New York Times best seller "Full of Heart."
He later landed an acting role on ABC's "All My Children," and was cast on "Dancing With the Stars." Partnered with Karina Smirnoff, they became the early favorites en route to the Mirrorball Trophy.
Bless The Mic is a contemporary spin on the traditional President's Lecture Series. All lectures in the series begin at 7:00 p.m. in the M.L. Harris Auditorium and are free and open to the public. No tickets are required.
