A race/walk-a-thon Saturday in Star City benefits a high school football player who's still hospitalized more than three weeks after suffering a head injury during a game.

Zack Towers remains in a coma at Arkansas Children's Hospital in Little Rock. He was moved out of the Intensive Care Unit on Monday and continues to improve, according to posts on social media sites created to share information about and pray for his recovery.

Towers, a senior, has been hospitalized since November 1st when he collapsed on the football field in the Bulldogs'  home game against the Crossett Eagles. Since then he has had surgery and battled a fever. He started breathing on his own a couple of weeks ago and has been moving around a little but has yet to open his eyes, social media posts say.

The benefit is being held at Cane Creek State Park on Saturday, starting at 9:00 a.m.

The entry fee is $10 per person, with all proceeds going to support Zack's medical care and the Towers family.

For a registration form or more information email Cane Creek State Park's Geoff Wright at Geoff.wright@arkansas.gov or call him at (870) 628-4714.

The event is being hosted by the Star City High School cross country team, Star City High School EAST Lab, Cane Creek State Park and area businesses.
